Latitude 39 Dishes Up the Best American Cuisine in Chile

MISSING THE FOOD OF THE UNITED STATES? CALIFORNIA-NATIVE, AND OWNER, OF LATITUDE 39 SERVES UP THE BEST AMERICAN CUISINE IN CHILE.

PUCÓN –- As if this city were not wonderful enough based on the scenery, the gringo cuisine catapulted Pucón to the best vacation spot in Chile. Among my expat friends who went before me, the one thing I heard from everyone was, “you have to go to Latitude 39, the food is just like California.” As someone with a strong love of chorrillana but also a yearning for some authentic California-Mexican food, I knew Latitude 39 would be my new home in Pucón. I was more right than I thought.

Over the long weekend my friends and I actually ate every single meal at Latitude 39 and all the reviews were right – it tasted like home. Latitude 39 has a collective menu including variations of tacos, nachos, burritos, sandwiches, and burgers. Oh and for breakfast? Pancakes, waffles and bacon. Needless to say, we were all in heaven. Throughout the weekend I would say we covered most if not all of the menu and everything was delicious.

The restaurant itself is quaint and family run, making the staff personable and good conversationalists. We had many a conversation with the owners who told us about what to do in Pucón and gave us that American sass we’d all been missing out on. As a gringa, I can say this place was a nice change of scenery from the Chilean restaurants. The ambience and friendly staff really made us feel at home (the English speakers helped too). The prices were decent and the helpings hearty – trust me, I went there every day, I would know.

Though my friends and I may have gone a little overboard by consuming every meal there, as California-natives ourselves, good Mexican food is a necessity just like water. Anyone looking for authentic American cuisine, I would highly recommend Latitude 39. Be sure to venture out of your comfort zone and try one of their unusual burgers like the Grand Prix (complete with peanut butter) or the Stout Burger (soaked in beer). And end with dessert at least once, a nice slice of mudpie is great for sharing. If you don’t trust my advice, check out their online reviews. Latitude 39 is a hidden gem that deserves much more recognition.
