Olympic Games in Sochi: Day 5
New results of the Chilean Olympics team are here for you to stay up to date with what is going on in Sochi!
SOCHI, RUSSIA — After the debut of the Chilean Olympics team at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, with the competitions of Henrik von Appen in Men’s downhill and Noelle Barahona in Women’s Skislope, two more Chileans started into the Games today.
The two members of the Chilean team, Yonathan Fernández and Dominique Ohaco had to face their first competitions today. Unfortunately, 29 year-old Fernández didn’t have a really good start. In the Men’s Cross Country Free Sprint, he ended up in position 84 out of 86 participants. He only defeated the Australian Callum Watson and the Chinese Wenlong Xu, who had to leave the race.
Dominique Ohaco, who had her first competition today at 3 a.m. Chilean time, did better in the Women’s Slopestyle race. The Chilean, who was Chile’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi, came in 13th in the competition for the freestyle section. The gold medal went to the Canadian Dara Howell, followed by the US-American Devin Logan and Kim Lamarre, also from Canada. Slopestyle competitions take place on snowy, downhill skateparks complete with ramps, sets of stairs and rails that competitors do tricks on in an attempt to get the best score from the judges.
The next Chilean athlete to compete in the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi will be Noelle Barahona, tomorrow Feb. 12, 2014. We are excited to see how she will perform in the Women’s downhill race, tomorrow at 4 a.m. Chilean time.
