Chile Looks to Become Regional Technology Node
The Minister highlighted that the work table is currently developing public – private to set later this year, a personal digital pulse for the cloud industry.
SANTIAGO — Changes to legislation currently pending such as the Advanced Electronic Signature and Personal Data laws, together with the promulgation of regulations like net neutrality and tax incentives for R & D are some of the advances that have enabled Chile to an important leap to become a regional technology node global impact.
This was stated this week by the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism, Felix De Vicente, participating in the event ICT Forum Chile 2013 that for the second consecutive year, Telefónica organized to showcase the latest technologies associated with the world of health, retail and banking, among others.
For Minister De Vicente, Chile is at a special moment in terms of technological development, “the eyes of the world are upon us because we have a window of historic opportunity, thanks to advances in these last years, which allow us to favor the development of the global services market in Chile.”
Based on this goal , the authority of the Ministry of Economy highlighted that the work table is currently developing public – private partnership to establish a digital pulse agenda , in order to harness in Chile cloud services industry at all levels and position as a cloud service node in the region.
The work began by this group, looking to repeat the successful experience of the competitive drive agenda,” which established concrete measures to remove bureaucratic and regulatory obstacles to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, today 14 experts are working on a new agenda with concrete short, medium and long term plans, to be presented to the President of the Republic at the end of this year,” said De Vicente .
The Minister also called on all sectors “to keep this path of coordination between the public and private sector, which will lay a solid platform and also a diversified one , contributing to the local generation of technology and the development of innovation in this area in our country , “he said .
This workshop seeks to establish a digital agenda, participating private sector companies Cisco , HP , Sonda, Entel, Telefonica , from academia and civil society , Fundación País Digital , Internet and Society Institute of the U. Humboldt and the University of Chile. For the public sector, and the Ministry of Economy will lead this group, telecommunications involved the Undersecretary of Communications, Digital Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
