Facebook Office To Open In Chile
Social networking giant Facebook plans to open an office in both Colombia and Chile in 2014.
SANTIAGO — The social network Facebook is about to open offices in Colombia and Chile next year. Latin America is the region where the company registers records of global growth.
The Vice President of Facebook for Latin America, Alexandre Hohagen, explained that in the first quarter of the next year, it is planned to open an office in Colombia and after that, without an accurate date, also one in Chile.
“In Latin America the company is growing a lot and when I say we have 1,200 million users worldwide, 250 million of them live in this region. Latin America is the fastest growing region in the world.” explained Hohagen. At the moment, specifically in Chile there are 10 million users.
He noted that “the growth of Facebook is very directly related to the growth of Latin America”. In Brazil the expansion of the social network gets extreme. In 2011, there were 12 million Brazilian Facebook users, today, there are 80 million.
Hohagen added that, “There are many opportunities in Latin America and therefore we are growing so quickly. There are spaces for companies like Google and Facebook to develop together”.
Facebook, founded in 2004, has 80 percent of its users outside of the United States and Canada. At the moment, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina are the only Latin American countries, where Facebook is represented by an office
Until now, Chile and Colombia are dependent of the management which takes place in the Facebook office in Argentina to have direct contact with the operations of the social network.
