Chile Third At South American Baseball Championships
The South American Baseball Championships took place in Chile this year. The event ended on September 21 with the final match between Brazil and Argentina, in which Argentina dominated their opponents. Chile reached the third place.
SANTIAGO — The Chilean Team put up a good fight on the Championships settled in the Estadio Nacional de Baseball in Santiago de Chile. The Chileans reached the semi finals, losing against the Brazilian team. Chile and Ecuador were declared equal for the third place after rain delays. Meanwhile, the Argentinian team beat Brazil in the final and so became the twelfth South American adult baseball champion.
The final match between Argentina and Brazil was especially exciting: Both teams faced with much anticipation to close the match. In the ninth inning, the Brazilians led by 1 run and were only one strike away from the championship, however, the transandinos managed to turn the match around and reached the tenth inning with 3 runs to 1 on the Brazilian squad. The Argentinian team celebrated their victory raucously. Never the less, the manager of the team, Ramiro Schiavone remained honest and said that “it was a very tight match, we suffered, but we remained patient. We are never abandoning hope at any time. We were working hard and luckily, we were able to catch up and turn the result in our favor”. It was Argentina’s third consecutive title.
