Chilean Herbs to Relieve Pain
Two women in the town of La Cruz have kept alive the ancient family knowledge of healing by producing herbal medicines.
LA CRUZ — In the town of “La Cruz”, Province of Quillota, 45 kilometers north of Valparaiso, two women are working in “herbal science” that studies the use of medicinal plants for therapeutic purposes. The microentrepreneurs Verónica Urrea Cerna and María José Pino Urrea, mother and daughter, have kept alive the ancient family knowledge to devote the herbal medicines in their company called “ApiYerbas” where they produce different kinds of healing plants under strict health safety.
Among the species that are produced by them include “cedrón”, recommended for stomach problems and flu, the “Toronjil or Melissa”, very good for sorrow, anguish and anxiety, “La Hierba de San Juan”, indicated to prevent Alzheimer’s and “borraja” which is very useful for removing uric acid and cleanse the body. ”
Veronica Urrea says, “The healing power of herbs was accepted even by the WHO (World Health Organization) who have stated that 75% of the drugs that are traded in pharmacies have some medicinal herb. In this sense, there is nothing better than herbs to cure all the problems of menopause, for example.These herbs are great to counteract all that produces menopausal hormonal disorders“.
In addition, the women spread the benefits of the healing plants with lectures, courses, workshops and exhibitions. “With the production of herbal healing, we seek to keep our traditions alive permanently.”
The financial support received to establish the company was given by Indap (Department of Agriculture). Regional Director, Alexander Peirano, said about it that “with the added value that encourage through our investment, we have to go enticing young people to agriculture and not migrating to seek supposedly better horizons that eventually drive them away from their family, as well as to give them a healthy and positive environment.”
