Superclásico Sunday: Universidad de Chile vs Colo Colo
Universidad de Chile vs Colo Colo tomorrow in the 173rd Superclásico derby at the Estadio Nacional.
SANTIAGO — On Sunday, May 5 Universidad de Chile will welcome their biggest rivals, Colo Colo, to the Estadio Nacional. Colo Colo may not pose a threat to Universidad de Chile as far as the championship is concerned, but for the fans and the players this Superclásico match is the most anticipated game of the season.
The two will face each other for the 173rd time and in a game that has seen 99 red cards, 508 goals and its fair share of controversy it´s more than likely that Sunday will be another crazy Superclásico to add to the books.
Being arguably the biggest derby in Chilean football, both teams will go into the game feeling that it is a must-win, even with having different end goals. Seeing themselves drop vital points against Antofogasta in their last match, Universidad de Chile will want a win to stay in contention for the title race.
And, while Colo Colo may not have anything left to fight for this season, knowing that a win would put a dent in their rivals’ championship hopes will give them extra incentive to go for a win.
“We are not in contention for the title but we do have something to say on Sunday. We want to give joy to the people and to ourselves,” said Colo Colo striker Carlos Muñoz.
Colo Colo have fared better in this tie, but have failed to beat their rivals at the Nacional in their last three attempts and will look to put an end to this on Sunday.
