Uruguayan Ambassador in Chile Passes Away
Early this morning Uruguay’s Ambassador in Chile, Pedro Vaz Ramela, passed away at the age of 49.
SANTIAGO — According to reports, Ambassador Pedro Vaz Ramela died in his house on in Las Condes after suffering a heart attack. An autopsy will reveal further information, followed by an official medical statement.
According to the concierge of the building, around 1 a.m. Vanessa Miller, a friend, came downstairs asking for help, because he wasn’t feeling well. The concierge immediately called an ambulance, but the ambassador had passed away by the time they arrived.
Vaz Ramela was an Uruguayan lawyer, politician and a diplomat. He was named Ambassador in Chile in 2010 by President José Mujica.
Previously, he was involved in different diplomatic missions in Mexico and Switzerland, and served as ambassador to Brazil.
