ASCOLI PICENO, ITALY — Chilean speed skater Maria José Moya has made history, breaking the world record in the 200 meter time trial. Her time of 17.649 in the qualifying rounds broke the existing record of 17.830, set by Colombia’s Yerci Puello.

Moya won the Junior World Championship in the same category in 2006.

Chile has a delegation of fourteen skaters competing at the championship.

The World Championship is considered as a test for roller sports to find their way in to the 2020 Olympics. The International Olympic Committee will be deciding on the range of sports next year.
