Sergio Jadue accuses Marcelo Bielsa of disrespect
SANTIAGO – In an interview with the En Pauta program on Chilean television network Mega, ANFP chief Sergio Jadue claimed he had to deal with extreme levels of disrespect from the Argentine coach. “I greeted him and he didn’t shake my hand, he never called me. I called him and he didn’t answer” he said in an interview aired on Monday night.
Bielsa broke the hearts of fans of Chileans when he announced he would not work with anyone apart from Harold Mayne Nicholls. When the results elected Jadue as president, Bielsa left the side to go to Spanish club Athletic Bilbao, who he guided to the final of the Europa Cup. The Basque squad will take on Atletico Madrid tomorrow, Wednesday May 9. Retiring Barcelona coach recently proclaimed him as “the best coach in the planet“.
While the Catalans have promoted from within, with assistant Tito Villanova taking over the reigns, Bielsa was strongly backed to take over at Camp Nou. Bielsa led Chile to the qualification for the World Cup in South Africa, winning the round of sixteen before falling to Brazil. The coaching styles of “El Loco” have clearly influenced coaches throughout the world, particularly Universidad de Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli.
Jadue expressed that he was happy with current national coach Claudio Borghi ahead of the upcoming qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela.
Marcelo Diaz to leave “La U” for FC Basel
After losing a number of players following the 2011 Copa Sudamericana victory, the floodgates look likely to open again for the leaders of the local competition. Marcelo Diaz, who starred in the 5-0 thrashing of Colo Colo has been signed by Swiss side FC Basel for a US$4 million price tag. It is likely that defender Osvaldo González will also leave the club at the end of the Apertura season.
Both Junior Fernandes and Igor Lichnovsky are in doubt for Thursday’s rematch with Deportivo Quito. Universidad de Chile struggled with the altitude, going down 4-1.
Santiago Silva out of Copa Libertadores clash
Santiago Silva, who scored the last minute goal for Boca Juniors in their clash with Unión Española will not be taking part in Wednesday’s match at Estadio Santa Laura. The Uruguayan player will miss eight matches for the club. He scored the winning goal in the final minute at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires.
The “Hispanics” will take confidence from the fact they were right in the game until the final minute and they scored an important away goal. Argentines Emmanuel Herrera and Sebastian Jaime will look to star once again to give Unión Española a chance to move through to the quarter finals.
