Almost 2 Million Chileans Travel Through the Country During Semana Santa
The most visited regions will be Valparaíso, Biobío, Maule, O’Higgins and Metropolitana.
SANTIAGO – The undersecretary of Tourism, Jacqueline Plass converted a positive projection of what will happen in terms of tourism during the Holy Week, known as Semana Santa. She estimates a movement of more than 1.8 million Chileans between the 5th and 8th of april by overland route and airway, that would be an increase of almost +10% of last year.
“it is expected that this long weekend, almost 2 million Chileans travel through the country. Approximately two third spend average 2 until 3 nights en different places than their home, in relatives and/or friends houses or use accommodation services al over the country”, while one-third of them just do one-day visits.
She adds that the favorite destinations with the most demand for those days are Valparaíso and Viña del Mar and classified in regions Valparaíso, Biobío, Maule, O’Higgins and Metropolitana.
Ms Plass stressed that “this projections are encouraging for our sector because it means that the work we did referring to promotion besides the private sector is coming to concrete conclusions.”
The promotion campaign of internal tourism Chile es Tuyo, which those days inaugurates a new face, strives to motivate the Chileans to know and travel their own country and exploit the charges in the cheaper season.
