Right from the beginning la “U” was the better team, fought a lot and did not give the enemy a chance. They played offensive and just after nine minutes they had their first goal-scoring opportunity. Only a few minutes later, Jaime nearly broke a tie. In the 40th minute there was again Sebastián Jaime, who created another goal-scoring opportunity, but didn’t follow through. The ball flew over the crossbar.
So, during the half-time break both teams went scoreless into their changing rooms.
After the break, in minute 64 Union Española finally broke the tie when Emanuel Herrera scored.
Only one minute later Cordero got his chance to score, which he used and put his team in the lead for the second time this match. He came from the left side, took the ball into the center and shot the ball inside. 2:0. The audience went crazy.
Up to this point the match ran its course. There where a few unremarkable goal-scoring chances on both sides, but in the end it stayed a fair 2:0-victory for the team from Santiago and almost 5,000 people returned home after an exciting match.
Union Española still has not lost a match in this year, which might make them optimistic in view of the next matches of the Copa Libertadores and in the league. The next games in the Copa Libertadores will be against Bolivar from Bolivia, the 21st of February in La Paz. Junior will play against Universidad Católica on the 23rd of February, again in Santiago.
